This weekend marked the end of our summer course on planning and sustainability in Europe. In June and July, 20 University of Virginia and Virginia Tech students studied in Europe for the course called “Sustainability and Planning Policy in Contemporary Europe,” which was co-taught VT Professor Sonia Hirt, UVa Professor Suzanne Moomaw, and me. The students were based at Virginia Tech’s Center for European Studies in Switzerland. During the course, students traveled to Freiburg in Germany and to Basel and Zurich in Switzerland to meet with planners, policy makers, and scholars to learn about sustainable transport, land-use planning, and water management. The students kept a course blog about their studies.
